Watch your valuables: Thieves will pick your pockets. They will enter your room and slide valuables off the side table while you sleep, so make sure your hotel room door is shut tight when you leave and when you go to bed. Thieves will sit in a visiting public toilet stall, either reaching over the top of the stall to get your purse from the hook or under the stall wall to get your purse from the floor or perhaps your wallet from the pocket of your trousers.

Look them in the eye: Eye contact is a deterrent. If somebody bumps you, look them in the eye, because thieves do not want to be known.
